The photo shows some of the 5th Entry E & W School Flowerdown (which we know as the 8th Entry).

The following two photos were kindly sent to us by

Sir Hugh

This looks to be Halton, but it's a nice picture of Hugh Trenchard inspecting Apprentices

The following two pictures were scanned by Vic Ludlow (68th Entry) from
The Magazine of the E&WS, RAF Cranwell.
From Issue No 5, December 1937 -

Empire Day (24th May), Cranwell, 1937.
The large biplane to the right is believed to be the Vickers Valencia,
in which Roy Longworth (40th Entry) recalls doing practice air operating in 1940.
Tom Lisle (also 40th), as a u/t instrument maker, was impressed by the artificial horizon,
which was just a piece of wire strung between two uprights and mounted on the nose in front of the pilot!

And from the 6th July 1938 -

H.M. King George VI, at the bottom of the steps to a Vickers Valencia flying classroom,
views eight apprentices and their Sergeant and Corporal instructors ready for an airborne training session.
(Apprentices who flew in the Valencia at the time don't recall wearing such head attire,
so it was probably worn just to 'look impressive' for the occassion.

Peter forwarded this photograph believing it to be a "near duplicate" of the photo on the 58th photos page entitled "Some of Our Masters".   Closer examination has shown that this is not so.   So who are these three and who were they in-charge of?
